The coroner investigating the death of 16-year-old Jack Morrisson, who drowned while fishing Sutton-at-Hone, near Dartford, Kent, shortly before Christmas, has said Jack died due to misadventure.
The inquest in Maidstone heard Jack was wearing waders when his body was pulled from the water. It is thought he had entered the water either voluntarily or by accident, but then could not get out. Rescue teams found Jack’s body in the water in front of his swim following a large-scale search after being alerted about his disappearance.
Detective Sgt. Steve Smith told the hearing the teenager’s body was recovered from 7ft of water. “My inquiries point to Jack entering the water voluntarily or by accident, and him then being unable to get out of the water,” he said.
The officer said there were no injuries on Jack’s body and no sign he had been involved in a struggle with another person, and there was no evidence to suggest he had taken his own life.
Senior North West Kent coroner Roger Hatch said: “Unfortunately, we shall never know how it was that Jack ended up in the fishing lake from which he sadly drowned.”
