A three-catch for a final weight of 52½lb saw Kellie Margerrison claim victory in the Ladies British Carp Cup Singles event at Penns Hall Fishery in the Midlands.
Kellie picked up a cheque for £500 and her first major individual title by beating fellow Ladies Carp Team England member Elaine Taylor into second place on two fish for 42lb 3oz. The final podium position went to Becky Sharman, whose two fish for 29lb 3oz were enough to beat Joanne Lofts on 25lb.
Speaking about her victory, Kellie said: “What a fantastic weekend at Penns Hall. I came out third in the draw and chose swim three in the match, as there was shelter for the fish on the wind behind the reeds. By 10 o’clock on Friday night I had landed two carp, so had got off to a good start. My baiting programme and staying up to watch the water all night (no bedchair) had me landing another fish early on Sunday morning. During the last five hours I changed tactics to try and nick that last fish to increase my lead, knowing the ladies were only 10lb behind. Finally the horn sounded and I had done it!”
