More than 100 anglers and veterans from the UK and France were joined by comedian Jim Davidson for the Carp After Combat social weekend at Medway Valley Fisheries in Kent, where more than £29,000 was raised for the charity.
As the CEO of the Carp After Combat and a keen carper himself, Jim kept the anglers entertained during what was a challenging weekend fishing-wise. In the end, it was Steve Karim who ran out as the winner of the men’s event thanks to a 30½lb mirror, while Emma Pearsall took the honours in the women’s competition with a 17½lb common. The Mal Story Memorial Cup, awarded to the veteran with the biggest fish, was retained by Michael O’Dell courtesy of his 16¼lb mirror.
Lead organiser Dave Coates has passed on his thanks to Gary, Kevin and Jackie of the Tackle Box for donating 10 sets of carp rods, spod rods, landing nets and bivvies, and also Danny Fairbrass of Korda for a huge donation of end tackle.
A second social weekend will be held over the weekend of 20th-22nd October at Clearwater Fishery in Carnforth, Lancashire, followed by the Carp After Combat Christmas Extravaganza at the Orsett Hall Hotel, Essex, on Saturday 11th November.
