Viewers of the last free Korda DVD will have seen Tom Dove put his Cygnet Stage Stands through their paces during his piece on Walthamstow Reservoirs when he fished off a platform, and with more fisheries opting for platform-based swims, the use of either Stage Stands or pods is on the increase.
The rigidity and ease of a pod is a big vote-winner, but I like the minimal fuss and space-saving that the Stage Stand provides, and they can also be mounted on a sleeper, which perhaps can give you a better angle to your chosen spot. Cygnet produce 20/20 and standard versions. Mounting them is as easy as screwing the supplied Phillips screw through the hole in the base into your platform or wooden sleeper; the Stand will self-level on tightening. The Stage Stand also features a stainless steel\aluminium thumbscrew.
Although the Stage Stand was initially designed to work with the rest of Cygnet’s 20/20 range, it’s fully interchangeable with their 16mm banksticks and storm poles. I like to team up the Stage Stand with a six-inch extendable bankstick at the front and the nine-inch version at the back. RRP on the 20/20 stage stands is £14.99, and the 12mm standard Stands are £13.99 each, and both include a cross head screw for fixing.
