The Welsh Ladies Carp Team was set up by team member Samantha Roberts back in 2015. During that time it was only a dream to Samantha where there would be a World Championship for ladies carp fishing. Today, the team are preparing for their biggest test in carp fishing history – Women’s Carp Fishing World Cup, which will be hosted by Carp Team England, later this year.
Last year the team welcomed Mark ‘Wuzzy’ Wozencroft of Cardiff, to manage their team at International level. In his short time as team manager, the team has faced many challenges during the pandemic, but its only made the team stronger. Mark said “It is such an exciting time for the history of women’s fishing, with the first World Cup Championships being held in the UK this year. Its great to see so many young girls and women coming into the sport and excelling really well in their chosen fishing category. We could only hope that our journey to the world stage will encourage more girls and women to take up the sport and hopefully in the near future be representing Wales themselves.”
This years international team, Rhian ‘Bomber’ Thomas of Maerdy, Rhondda will lead the Welsh Ladies Carp Team on their first international debut against England Ladies and also in the World Cup Championships in September this year.
The team management if offering everyone the opportunity to trial for a place in the Welsh Ladies Carp Team. This years trials will be held on Fendrod Lake, Llamsamlet, Swansea on 5th – 6th June for a 24 hour overnight trial. For those who are offered a place in the Welsh team will represent their country in their first international fixture against England Ladies where both teams will battle it out over a 48 hour fishing session, for victory over the Anglo Welsh Ladies Carp Cup.
The team will then undergo preparations for their biggest test in history where they will compete on the world stage at the first Ladies World Cup Carp Championships which will be hosted by England Ladies themselves, venue is TBA.
