The club’s stillwater fishing consists of a 2 acre pond at Belper, called Wyver Lane Pond. This intimate venue is a members-only water, with no day tickets available, and offers safe and quiet fishing – away from the crowds.
The pond appeals to a mixture of anglers, with something to interest carp fishermen, pleasure anglers, match anglers and specialists. This venue has varied marginal features, including overhanging trees, reed beds and lily pads, but very few large snags.
Wyver Lane Pond is accessed via a private, gated track, off Wyver Lane and there is a club car park at the end of the track.
Night fishing is only allowed on the pond to holders of a BDAC night permit, but numbers of these are strictly limited. However, season permit holders may fish here between dawn and dusk, as often as they wish.
Fish species which can be caught in Wyver Lane Pond include:
- Carp to 23lb
- Tench to 8lb
- Bream to 6lb
- Roach
- Perch
- Dace
- Barbel
- Pike
- Ruffe
- Ide
The carp here fall to all methods, with floating baits accounting for numbers of fish throughout the spring and summer. There are a number of known carp weighing around or above the 20lb mark, so the rewards are there for anglers wishing to target specimen fish.
In early 2020 the specimen carp stocks in the pond received a boost, in the form of an immaculate 19lb+ mirror carp (“Shoulders”) and a 20lb+ common carp (“Chester”).
