The specimen lake is a mature picturesque lake with lots of features and sun traps. This large, open lake incorporates three bays, five islands and two gravel bars with beautiful views across the water and surrounding landscape.
The lake was originally created in 2010 and specifically designed for the carp angler, with original features being 2.5 acres, two islands and five bays. As the lake is host to a clay bed, gravel was imported to make the gravel bars maximizing the features in the lake. In the beginning the lake hosted 14 swims and a cabin also at this time it had been stocked with 100 carp ranging from 10lb – 35lb.
As the lake has matured, it has been seen some changes over the years. In 2013 swims were reduced from 14 to 8 but the wooden cabin remains a feature of the lake. In 2017 the lake was drained and extended, also at this time there was an addition of a third island. As part of this process 300 small carp were removed from the lake and were put into stock ponds to grow on forming the base stock for future developments on the fisheries. With the removal of the smaller carp it allowed us to introduce 30 VS carp back into the lake ranging from 14lb-17lb with the addition of some predator fish to prevent self spawning carp. Since this time the carp have thrived and exceed all expectations in growth with the lake record being 41lb.
The last 10 years have seen maturity in foliage giving the angler and enjoyable experience whilst being sheltered from the east coast elements. The lake had its latest modification in January 2021 where a further two islands were added making it a total of five islands in the now three acre lake. As part of the latest improvements, the pathways and car park have seen extensive modifications creating easy, clean access to all swims.
In total there are now 150 carp from 10lb to in excess of 40lb with the first 40lb being caught in June 2020. There are 15 carp in excess of 30lb and 6 carp in excess of 35lb all with the potential to reach 40+lb in the coming years
