Holme Pit is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and forms part of a Local Nature Reserve. The pond (originally a stock pond for the Clifton family estate) and surrounding area remains largely unchanged for more than 200 years. Fish stock wise, best estimate is between 20 and 30 carp to around 32lb, including mirrors and commons. There are plenty of bream, roach, rudd, perch, pike, tench and, of course, eels! The carp can be a bit “moody” at times but various tactics and baits work in both open water and along the reed beds, and try floater fishing up “the Arm” during warmer weather.
